Obama vs. McCain…the facts

So I was planning to sit down and do an in-depth step by step comparison of the two candidates and their claims in the press. But then someone linked me to Obama and McCain — Truth and distortion and by the time I got through fact checking his work, I decided there was no need to reinvent the wheel. I also recommend running any new rumors through FactCheck.org if the deluge of new stories and accusations gets to be too much. I do plan to continue blogging about the election here, but real life also requires my attention and I realized while playing “follow the facts” that this is taking up a lot of time and energy that I need to devote to the work that I’m trying to get published. I don’t have a book deal, but I’d like one and I won’t get it if I don’t devote some time and attention to finishing my off-line projects.

This video highlights McCain’s doublespeak really well.

I did a little analysis by counting up the articles on factcheck.org and Politifact.com and scoring Obama and McCain based on the number of articles they had written about their misstatements since the general election campaign began. I posted the results on my blog here. I counted 30 articles about McCain’s false claims, and 18 about Obama’s false claims, for a ratio of 1.67 to 1.
