I’m going to be on NPR’s News & Notes again Monday as part of the blogger’s roundtable. One of the things we’re going to discuss is the incident Nora mentioned in the previous post. I’ll try to keep the disgust from my voice. I started hearing about this a few days ago: a series of incidents in which Obama supporters — usually black — violently attacked McCain supporters — usually white. The most prominent of them was an incident in which a woman claimed that a 6’4″ black man mugged her and stole $60, then took [...] There’s been a lot of rhetoric lately about this idea that “real” Americans are middle class Christian white people living in small towns. Because somehow the POC in those towns? Not really American. People living in major cities? Not really American. People who are not Christian? Not American. Part and parcel of the implications of [...] Palin goes on and on about Joe Six Pack, McCain is all about Joe the Plumber. These mythical men are supposed to represent Real Americans and all that. Yeah. So a blogger (apparently protesting some of the misogynistic macros aimed at Gov. Palin) gets the idea to post: and then decides to “pull it down” but not. Because I’m hotlinking to the picture (which is still hosted on his webspace) right now. And then he tries to act like he had no idea it [...] See, this is what happens when you use hate as a strategy. No, not a tactic, a strategy.
