Valerie Carter, Age 20: FOUND
Update: According to her mother Misty, Valerie is now back at home and safe. I don't know all the details (apparently there was a dude involved, but not sure if charges are being pressed), but apparently Internet efforts played a big part in making this happen. To all those who spread the word: thanks for doing what the media often does not - care about missing black women.
Valerie Carter, Age 20, Is Missing (Indianapolis Area)
Okay so, I know Tumblr has found missing people before, so I’m posting this. This girl went to my high school, was a friend of mine, and her mom is starting a facebook campaign because apparently news stations arn’t telling this story. She is from Indianapolis Indiana but has been missing for two days.
This is from the facebook page:

This is a shame ! Why are missing people of color rarely reported ? If she was 3 shades brighter, they would have had her on CNN and FOX NEWS three hours after her disappearance.
We shouldn’t be worrying about whether news not reporting her has to do with her color, we should be spending more time praying that she is returned safely
Eddie, I can multitask. I can both do what’s in my power to help find this woman AND rail against how racism plays into lack of coverage when women of color go missing versus white women. If you don’t have the ability to multitask, you should certainly choose which of those things you’re going to focus on. Me, I have skills.
I hope they find her. I just received a text with this information.
Carter may be a fugue victim. The report that her cell was turned on then off again with the short message that she didn’t know where she was is a clue that this is happening.
If this is the case she may have full or partial amnesia or delusional beliefs of persecution so she will be hiding avoiding being found.
There is a long list of students that disappeared like this. Remember Brian Shaffer, Maura Murray, Michael Negrete, Justin Gains, Josh Guimond, and Nick Coppola.
Black students disappear like this too. Devon Minor, an engineering student from Geneva College vanished during a snow storm and was found last week drowned wearing a running suit. Leslie Buford vanished in New Orleans and was found days later wandering the French Quarter. He was so mentally disturbed he could not return to LSU.
VALERIE HAS BEEN FOUND!!! HELLO, I AM HER MOTHER, MISTY AL-ERYANI…I AM HAPPY TO HAVE HER HOME, AND WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO RE-POSTED MY STORY!!!
Glad to hear that! So often these things turn out badly. Thank goodness this time that wasn’t the case.
