“…what could be more wonderful than dancing every day?”
I often miss living amongst raqs sharqi dancers, as I think the art form is moving and beautiful.
Wow, the isolations are spot-on. How does a body get that fluid?
I am always amazed by the physicality of this piece. Her costuming was amazing - at the time, no one had done much like it before. Her technicality is flawless, at least imo (keep in mind, she’s dancing tribal fusion, not cabaret, so there will be differences in correct technique). The skill level is so far beyond what I’ve seen in any other bellydancer, except for in inspired moments. But she just keeps pumping it out - consistently. How does she do it? I’m guessing unfailing practice, passion, and natural brilliance as well.
Usually in dancers you see one or two of those qualities. In her, they ALL show up in EVERY show. Intense.
I often wonder what it would be like to be so talented - and yes, in that assessment, I include the intensely hard work she must do to get there. So many people think of great dancers in safely distant terms (we wouldn’t want to be truly challenged to the core, would we?) ”Oh, what must it be like to be so great?” *gusty siiiiiiiiiiiiighhhhhhhhhh* But do they practice? Maybe once a week? We can all achieve our own greatness, but we have to be not only talented naturally (find what you’re truly good at - or at least LOVE, ladies), but passionate and willing to put in the hours. Not sporadically, but every day. And really, what could be more wonderful than dancing every day?
