Is it a More Convenient Season yet?

“I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action”; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a “more convenient season.” Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.”

    As an old white guy you are right, I’m sick of hearing what do Brown and Blacks want and why can’t they wait until the time is right. I alway ask how about right now, what are you waiting for?

    Great quote. I’m reminded of the following passage from Revelation: “These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
    15 [[[I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.]]]
    16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.”

    Only the slave, and the imprisoned, are committed to being free. Only they that are hungry and are thirsty, are committed to finding food and drink.

    All others, can wait the wait of the satisfied.

    Without a doubt you must have never served in the military or been around people that are in the military that have for years been gay/lesbian. I will tell you there are many incidents that I am privy to that have cost military personnel their careers because of a gay individual “performing oral sex” on a straight guy that thought the cat was a cool dude and they were drinking together, or the straight guy that was drugged and he thought he was having sex with a woman and it turned out to be the man that was dressed like a woman.
    There are countless stories of pressure and manipulation that is performed by gay/lesbian individuals in the military (AF in particular).
    Women have been in combat roles for some time now and have given their lives in defense of…what I really sometimes don’t know.
    You need to read up more of what is going on in the military than suspecting things to be as they were 15 or 20 years ago.

    And I’m struck by how the relevance of these words has not changed one little bit.
