A black blogger who’d lived in Russia wrote a commentary describing his experiences. He concluded with an imagined recommendation were he to be asked whether black people should visit Russia. His recommendation would be ‘no’.
Well, of course, all kinds of humans neither Russian, nor black felt they had to have an opinion – not only about visiting Russia – but about the validity of black choice regarding THEIR OWN potential visits/ or not to Russia.

Many comments on the order of “you already had your mind made up” and “you people are always on a race trip” and “I’m from the south and I know black people so….”
Focusing on whether black traveller experience should really be called ‘racism’ as opposed to ‘classism’ or some other name. Yup, ’cause that’s the important focus of the discussion – what should we call it?

I wish people would stop using who they have had sex with as proof of anything. It’s as ridiculous as a man saying “But I CAN’T be a misogynist – I have had sex with a *gasp* WOMAN!”
And it makes my skin crawl.

you know, i sometimes will send a friend an e-mail in response to a post or a comment that they made–usually when i want to relay some personal experience that i think might give them additional insight about something but i don’t want to share my personal experience with a hundred strangers. but i’m trying to imagine what would prompt me to PM a total stranger to give them my opinion about their situation and how they should proceed and i’m completely failing to imagine when i would think i should do that…..

it’s our old friend “huge sense of entitlement” isn’t it.
