He swept straight past McCain to victory. I am laying on my floor trying to catch my breath. Because this happened in my lifetime. And I cannot believe that I got to see this day.

I’m in tears. I’m so, so very happy.

  2. Juan says:

And so racism was banished forever. The End. [lil Timmy voice]

*snerk* Sorry, couldn’t help that one, because I know it’s what I’ll have to put up with later on. ETA for it being about next week, but until then–time to break out a few bottle. =)

I was doing just fine until they panned across the crowd and caught Jesse Jackson sobbing. That fucking broke me. I am bawling like an idiot now.

This is completely surreal. It’s a very good surreal though. I’m 32 and have not lived through a lot of historic events that will be remembered for years to come, but this is one of them. And I’m proud to have been a part of it. This biracial chick is happy. My 80 year-old white grandfather, who also voted for Obama, is happy too.

    Jessie AND Oprah.

  6. Patrick says:

Congratulations. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens when a black man is elected president and, contrary to racists, doesn’t fuck it up within 10 days. They’ll probably credit Biden.

  7. jenn says:

    OH HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!

  8. Rebekkah says:

I am not a crier but ever since CNN broke the news that Barack Obama has been elected President the tears have been flowing constantly. It is a brand new day. Change has come. YES WE DID!!!

  9. Free at last in AZ says:

With humility and honor for all those who walked the hard road so that this moment could occur within our lifetime….YES WE DID!

  10. carolyn says:

At 8 p.m. PST, I opened up my window and yelled, “OUR LONG NATIONAL NIGHTMARE IS OVER!!!”

And Jesse Jackson’s tears broke me as well. I wanted to give him a huge hug.

This is major. I never thought I would live to see this day.I am in tears! I’m hopeful about what we can achieve as american people. This afternoon when I saw how many people came out to vote. It signaled to me that hope is stronger than fear. Not at all delusional about the work ahead, but feeling that we can do this. What a beautiful day.

  12. Jennifer Gandin Le says:

    YES YES YES!

  13. John says:

I’m glad my first vote was for the winning side, and that I lived to see such a historic occasion in our nation’s history!

    Yes we can!

i was crying at 3 today when i saw a huge crowd of little black girls outside in the poor neighborhood where i live holding up obama signs, laughing, and dancing in the streets. so much hope and from a new generation that will just know things are possible in a way i didn’t understand until tonight. so meaningful. *****sigh***** i cannot express it. the memories of so many are alive and happy tonight. not even 50 years ago people were dying, literally, to vote and now.. obama! “for the first time in my adult life i am proud of my country.”

  15. Westerly says:

I’m still stunned… but happy. People across the world (like me) are celebrating for you and with you.
