You would think that any headline reading:
John McCain ‘endorsed by al-Qaeda supporters’
Would actually be from the Onion. Or something the McCain campaign would say about Obama. But no.
In a message broadcast on the password-protected al-Hesbah site, the group said they would also welcome a pre-election terror attack on the US because that would make a McCain win more likely.
In an endorsement that will not be welcomed by Mr McCain’s flagging campaign, the group said that if al-Qaeda wants to exhaust the USmilitarily and economically, the “impetuous” Republican presidential candidate is the better choice.

“…al-Qaeda will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush.”“If al-Qaeda carries out a big operation against American interests,” it said, “this act will be support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda then will succeed in exhausting America till its last year in it.”
Mark Salter, a senior McCain adviser, had no immediate comment.
Yeah I bet he didn’t. The above is from the Telegraph in the UK. The NYTimes even mentioned it in an Op-Ed piece this weekend. Though it’s hard to take a newspaper seriously when they also cover “Tattooed Leopard Man ditches hermit life.”
The Telegraph points out that this posting is not an official al-Qaeda edict or anything, just the opinion of someone involved (perhaps) with the group. But still.
For years people have been saying that we’re beyond satire, because the country is becoming so ridiculous that even the most far-fetched Saturday Night Live scenarios are really happening. This, I think, definitely falls under that heading. Though, I have to say, a strange reversal from four years ago when al-Qaeda supposedly was all for John Kerry. Hmm.
Wasn’t the response from the McCain camp that Al-Queda was basically playing the opposite game? That they were playing mind-games with The American People, using reverse psychology, and claiming that by endorsing McCain they were actually (in opposite land) endorsing Obama? That was my impression, but maybe I wasn’t listening right (I do tend to close my ears when McCain opens up his stupid hateful mouth).
Speaking of terrorism, has anyone seen this story yet? I’ve been having nightmares about this sort of thing for weeks but I was hoping I was just paranoid.

Yes. Though of course when Hamas endorsed Obama, THEY were being perfectly on the level.
I actually had an experience with a cab driver in Toronto that supports this story. He apparently was a Muslim extremist and was advocating that I vote for McCain so that America’s resources would continue to be depleted. I’m sure there is more information about this available but of course our media isn’t promoting these types of stories.
My uncle, a straight Democratic Party ticket voter, voted for Ronald Reagan because he said he wanted the USA to go to hell with a republican at the helm…
No explaining everyone’s reason. However, extremists do not want to negotiate or for the USA to look “good” or “reasonable.” If the USA is “fair,” what do the extremists complain about?
Remember, this is politics. Has anyone looked to see how many promises made on the campaign trail actually happened once the “candidate” was in office? We should hold “our” candidate (whoever that might be) to the same standard we hold “that other” candidate.
I actually like the idea of having the person coming in second in the Presidential election to be the Vice-President (as it used to be). This way, everyone is represented in some manner–perhaps this would foster cooperation? Nah, maybe not. However, living with people “not like you” does tend to open your eyes to seeing life through lenses that you have not created.
While I don’t think it will happen soon, what happens to those who make their money and their fame from advocating for “civil rights” and “the end of racism” when there is no more “racism?” Unfortunately, some people don’t want an end to “it” as much as they want their pulpit…
I apologize for going a bit off-topic in your comments, but I’m freaking out about the election so I’m basically spamming this everywhere. But I’m a real person not a bot, and I’m trying to counter the misinformation in a flier that was sent out to millions of Californian voters, so I hope you’ll put up with me.
I’m trying to get the word out about Barack Obama’s opposition to Proposition 8, a bill he calls “divisive and discriminatory.”
You may have seen a flier with Obama’s face all over it, and quotes from him implying (although never stating outright) that he supports the measure. Of course, Obama does oppose same-sex marriage in general.
But Barack Obama ALSO opposes Proposition 8. He says that if passed it would “roll back civil rights.”
Obama stated his opposition to Prop 8 way back in April, so the Prop 8 people know perfectly well that they are misleading the public by using Obama’s image and quotes in their ad. Obama’s statement read in part:
“I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states.”
“For too long, issues of LGBT rights have been exploited by those seeking to divide us.”
“It’s time to move beyond polarization and live up to our founding promise of equality by treating all our citizens with dignity and respect.”
“This is no less than a core issue about who we are as Democrats and as Americans.”
In reaction to the misleading Prop 8 ad, Obama’s camaign has stated:
“Senator Obama has already announced that the Obama-Biden ticket opposes Proposition 8 and similar discriminatory constitutional amendments that could roll back the civil rights he and Senator Biden strongly believe should be afforded to all Americans.”
Don’t let Senator Obama be misrepresented in the media! Please talk to your friends and family before election day about Obama’s opposition to Proposition 8.
