I can understand why white people get frustrated talking about race relations. I think everyone gets frustrated at one point or another. The following helps me keep going with it:

1) I've been on the sharp end of a literal knife over race. Talking is way better.

2) When someone calls you a racist, they're hurting. Whether it's rational or not, they're hurting. More often than not, even if their alalysis is wrong, or just off a little, there's usually a very real pain propelling it. Nothing less than compassion is a suitable response.

3) I wont take responsibility for all things that all white people have ever done or are doing, but I do have a responsibility to right the injustices suffered by my fellow humans. This compels me to engage, and to take grievences seriously.

I don't love Clinton, and I think he has a lot of shit he seriously needs to answer for (and no, not talking about frigging Monica here); but, I certainly would take him back in a hot minute over the current assclown.

he just...disappointed. Like, a lot.

sigh

Ditto on Vegan - what it shows is that we women of color are here and we are watching and reading and will continue to challenge white privilege / racism in the blogosphere.
