Angry Black Woman in the making

This will not be news to most of you. I’m just reposting the poem here for posterity. You go, Autum Ashante. You get angry, you stay black.

White Nationalism Put U In BondageWhite nationalism is what put you in bondage
Pirate and vampires like Columbus, Morgan, and Darwin
Drank the blood of the sheep, trampled all over them with
Steel, tricks and deceit.
Nothing has changed take a look in our streets
The mis-education of she and Hegro — leaves you on your knee2grow
Black lands taken from your hands, by vampires with no remorse
They took the gold, the wisdom and all of the storytellers
They took the black women, with the black man weak
Made to watch as they changed the paradigm
Of our village
They killed the blind, they killed the lazy, they went
So far as to kill the unborn baby
Yeah White nationalism is what put you in bondage
Pirates and vampires like Columbus, Morgan, and Darwin
They drank the blood of the sheep, trampled all over them with
Steel laden feet, throw in the tricks alcohol and deceit.
Nothing has changed take a look at our streets.

    Hi ABW:

I have no problem with the feelings that are being represented in her poem, but I think (even though she is intellectually advanced for her age), that her peers are too young and immature to understand and digest this thinking. Worse case, her poem should have been read in advance and held back for viewing by her peers.

I would have no problem with it being “published” and read by High School (maybe upper level Middle School) students and “adults”, who are more mature and able to understand the impact of her feelings.

Having two young children, I feel that there is a time and place for this and Elementary School is neither the time nor place. I do teach my 6 year old about “true” historical facts and do NOT whitewash any facts or deny their existence.

    Thank you

    Rich
